The Arawhata Stream & lake Horowhenua 2018 echo ' ';

Under the New Zealand Settlements Act 1863 the government confiscated 1.2 million acres (486,000 hectares) of Maori land in late 1864. Kemp in The Horowhenua was forced to give and sell land to the Government agents who wanted legal fees, cheap grazing and survey costs which were unknown at the time. Maori lost a great deal of its lands and

Pākehā settlers would occupy the confiscated land while successive governments would bring in new laws like the Public Works Acts to confiscate even more lands. The Government in 2012 will not negotiate with the direct descendents hence urban authorities with indirect links to our direct descendent lines are now taking place yet it is an injustice to Maoridom. Letters to Ministers as of March 2nd 2013 have gone unanswered with even our Maori MP's turning a blind eye.

LAKE HOROWHENUA May 2018 update

The lakebed, dewatered zone, islands and the Hokio Stream are owned by beneficial members of the Muaupoko tribe 1511 of them in 81 shares, as determined by the Reserves and other Lands Disposal Act (ROLD) 1956. The lake waters Muaupoko Domain, dewatered zone and one chain reserve strip in front of the Muaupoko Domain are vested under the Reserves Act 1977 in the Horowhenua Lake Domain Board. To date they have achieved nothing and even today sewerage is released into the Horowhenua Lake by the Council when it is overloaded and leaked again in August 2014 from the Arawhata Stream yet nothing is published.

THE INLETS INTO LAKE HOROWHENUA ARE WORSE 2018

With Horizons having their new settling ponds on the Arawhata Stream inlet this project does not answer the problem if the waters do not flood. All the leaching from horticukture and farm blocks continue to enter the Lake as this diversion can only work or supposedly work during flooding---total waste of time. Its only purpose is when the waters do flood so the nitrates go into this Lake via the stream and are not diverted May 2018. There is now a roadway around the edge of this project to the Lake built by Gibsons for Horizons. It only serves for boat launching by Horizons nothing else and the investment here we were told was around $200-300,000--for what? In the meantime Horizons do not even check the other inlets. Monitoring reports are sketchy and when asked Logan Brown from Horizons could only give a May 2015 copy of Water Quality in 2016 when asked as they had no information for the years 2015, 16, 17?? So where has all the money gone..

New roadway to the Lake April 2015

Check the waste of money below from Horizons. The Lake bed sediment is not even a subject for 34 years now as this useless Accord will not be able to get rid of the sludge/sewerage on the Lake bottom ever. Nathan Guy the national candidate for Otaki has done nothing. Google the inlets coming from the Kawiu Rd Market Garden leaching into the water system via Barry Curtis Place then behind Lakewood Grive paddock along 188 Queen St farm to just inside the Domain entrance of the Lake into the Lake. No signs erected; no prosecutions; Horizons do not care and Council knows but is not actioning anything to date. Take a look at the money they are spending to pretty a Lake up yet will not change the state of the Lake.

Who to Blame:

1/. Lake Trustees--cannot see further than their nose--no vision just dollars--no plan to take the sediment out

2/. Horizons --perpetrator --- they need to prolong something they caused

3/. District Council--- have no place for the stormwater to go & also a perpetrator

4/. Government-- for financing this debacle Accord that will never return a clean Lake

5/.Iwi Reps on the Domain Board as they miss out on being paid? doing nothing.

See how they spend the money on a Lake that will never

have the sediment on the bed removed: would you eat out of this Lake let alone swim in it????

Check below what they say theyre doing but do you see anywhere where they will take the raw sewerage/sediment/sludge out of the Lake bed--NO.

Do they tell you you can eat the eels and fish soon with the sewerage on the bottom---NO

Do they say kids will be able to swim without getting a disease---NO

Do they tell you the inlets to the Lake are NOT monitored for leachates and those doing it prosecuted---NO

Do they erect signs and tresspass signs---NO

Do they realize that spending money on a walk way on private land without owners consent is OK- NO

Yet they can waste money on shrubs etc so you can smell the stench in summer time--- YES

& pretend the Lake is going to be OK in 34 years time. Just remember they maintain in denial & the reason being .....guess

Read the big joke of an Accord that will never bring a Lake back to life?? ever.

Us owners have no say. Would you allow someone to run your land if not an owner??????

STILL NO 4TH IWI REP ON THE LAKE DOMAIN BOARD.

ITS NOW OVER 1 YEAR and this defunct Domain Board has achieved little to bring a 4th Iwi member as the Domain Board is supposed to be.

1/. What monitoring systems were in place. Duffy supposedly said they are in the latest Accord report--well they aren't . Duffy is no longer in the picture as Mayor but he knows why he had to have an Accord??? Stormater; leaching from the Sue market garden still goes into the Lake. The Accord has achieved nothing

Now us owners want to know the readouts monthly of these reports & what dates were they carried out. Nothing since 2015 to 2018. As you will see the sewerage which went into the Lake from the Higgins roading rupture at the Ararwhata Bridge was hushed up.

As at May 2018 there is still no full compliment of 4 Iwi reps on the Domain Board. They have been told its a simple process but they still do nothing. I wonder why? The minister Smith did not intervene so the Maori owners have 3 useless reps on this Board who say nothing and do nothing. In October 2014 the question again was asked why no 4th Iwi rep?? Then we had Maggie Barry who gave money to this accord and no longer in her position--good as she was useless for the Lake owners.

Lester who was the Chairman achieved nothing and the 3 Maori reps well guess--they hardly say a word but they are the ones who are supposed to work for us owners yet only work for themselves??? Lester by the way wasn't even aware of the sewer pipe rupture when he was told that Higgins fractured the line and the raw sewerage went back into the Arawhata stream into Lake Horowhenua? Amazing as even the press never knew but some of us owners know what happened. Of course Duffy covered it up quickly to speak and now Lester of DOC has resigned off the Domain Board---good as he offered zero for the owners. Then another DOC Chairman arrived who never stayed long or couldn't hack the pace and now it seems we have a key player in Jenny Rowan who is not stupid; has an understanding of the problems faced and what hasn't been achieved.
