The lakebed, dewatered zone, islands and the Hokio Stream are owned by beneficial members of the Muaupoko tribe 1511 of them in 81 shares, as determined by the Reserves and other Lands Disposal Act (ROLD) 1956. The lake waters Muaupoko Domain, dewatered zone and one chain reserve strip in front of the Muaupoko Domain are vested under the Reserves Act 1977 in the Horowhenua Lake Domain Board. To date the Crown has acknowledged they the Health Dept in 1948 said put the sewerage into the Lake and the HDC did just that. Now in Dec 2015 they will have to get it out.

We did know about the MLC case & its on this website but sad nothing has been done on the Lake to date.....& nothing will happen until the Waitangi Tribunal send in their recommendations---then hopefully things will get batter for the Domain and Lake for all????

Horowhenua Lake—we feel you would like answers. Its in our interest & yours to motivate those responsible who hide behind a cloud to start doing what theyre supposed to do!!! Perhaps a seismic lift of a few home truths for Maori owners & the residents of Levin as this Lake can be fixed!!..........But do your own due diligence:.................

Tirohia tēnei: As you know the Lake Trustees administer the Lake for the Maori owners ---3 yrs ago on the 11th May 2020 some of those trustees decided to dip into the till & were booted off the Trust by the MLC Judge Harvey. namely. Mathew Sword [ Chairman-a lawyer] & Robert Warrington [ Muaupoko Tribal Authority ] while Jon Proctor [ Councillor ] got a reprimand for “knowing” by the MLC [ Maori Land Court]. They “retained” monies for themselves destined for the Lake. We call it “another word” but the Maori owners missed out & the individuals concerned paid no restitution or vested monies back of the 6 figures misappropriated? Sad to see don’t you think, using positions of TRUST for self gain leaving the Lake & owners to suffer-but now you know? The Lake Domain Board that used to administer the land [now occupied] was disbanded & noone has the guts to reinstate it again, least of all the Lake Trustees in union with the Otaki MP, Council, Tribal Authority; or those Maori Councillors as they all promise the earth but once in, happy to say nothing & spend their putea $$ from ratepayers & Govt hoping the cat will stay in the bag?? Hence you have whoever living there?

Proctor & Warrington were on this Domain Board; perhaps not important to them anymore? Horizons via Govt $$$ splashed a lot of money to remedy the Lake & their pockets & got nowhere even buying 142 hectares of wetlands from the Arawhata to the Wairiri for $6.75m on Hokio Beach Rd. A wetland but Horizons aren’t silly. Maintaining a crap Lake, controlling channels in & out for farmers & market gardeners etc; using their so called Iwi Partnership [fractured by incompetence] & Govt as Banker, they benefit from you guessed it more Govt funding which is the point??The

longer it can be drawn out the better for those involved. One NEW business the Chinese weedeater has been collecting dust in a shed for years -- great tax rightoff & a waste of space?. As for the Council well they waited until dark while people slept then turned the taps on at night to flood the lake with raw sewerage then had the audacity to say "SORRY"…. BUT A [roto] Lake that should have been cleaned up years ago--- a Lake the council wants to forget & 4 Maori reps on Council that hide?---a Lake those mentioned who should be sorting out too busy helping themselves & lastly a Lake that could enhance the town & well being for all Levin Maori & Pakeha alike is not happening? Raw sewerage was not put into the Lake in August 2014 as found out it was the fracture of the pipeline by Higgins & was treated sewerage that leaked but was contained. The Domain Board has covered up certain questions put to them and Lester has since resigned from the Domain Board?

An altercation ensured at Lake Horowhenua when some of the Lake Trustees plus others went to the Domain to kick some squatters off. Instead of asking who they were & checking against an owners index they went about it in a lawless manner--!!!! Apparently the squatters are owners & under the [ Rold Act ] the Lake Trustees they have no rights to kick them out as they administer the Lake not the domain board. Until the Domain Board is instigated once again these Lake Trustees don't even understand their responsibilities & there should be a hui to decide on new replacement trustees who know what theyre supposed to do. One Kaumatua present: Charles Rudd explained to the Police and to the Lake Trustees who exactly oversees this piece of land. One would think by now these Lake Trustees know what theyre there for but NO???

The blame is on all Maori not thinking and getting their act together. Too much bickering and nothing being achieved. Disgraceful.
